There are nine official African languages in South Africa.
The illustration of scenes from African culture can be a minefield – details must be authentic.
The illustrations featured here are mainly from Xhosa and Zulu language books, for children aged from 12 – 15.
Most of them appear in language textbooks. Life-skills, sexuality, hygiene, child abuse, bullying etc., also feature.
But culture and tradition usually integrate seamlessly with a modern, westernised lifestyle.
