Afrikaans
‘Afrikaans came from the descendants of European (Dutch, German, and French) colonists, indigenous Khoisan peoples, and African and Asian slaves in the Dutch colony at the Cape of Good Hope’. (Encyclopedia Britannica)
This dry description doesn’t begin to describe the phenomenon that is Afrikaans. It’s a language that evokes many reactions. There is a richness to Afrikaans that makes it a personal favourite with me.
