WINGHAVEN: THE WINGSTERS’ WORLD

WINGHAVEN IS A TINY PLANET ORBITING EARTH. IT IS ALSO THE HEADQUARTERS AND HOME OF OUR CELESTIAL COURIER COMPANY, ‘LITTLE WINGSTERS’. 

Winghaven is a planet, floating through space, singing and reflecting earthly sounds of daily life and laughter in its ‘music’. At the core of the little blue-green planet dwells the mighty Moya.

Moya sends the four angels out on ‘projects’ all over the world, helping children in distress. Moya, apart from being MotherMind, is ‘Dispatch’ and appears as a dense cluster of tiny bright lights which form and reform into various shapes, like an electric flock of starlings, entertaining and comforting the little emissaries whenever they return for a debriefing. Sometimes the cloud of lights forms loving hands enfolding the four of them after debriefings, or wings, spirals, flickering flames or crashing waves of gold., a playful presence composed of a swarm of tiny lights who listens via the planet’s earphones to the requests and yearnings of children everywhere. When the angels go out to help, each brings their own special ability to match the kids’ needs.

When Dispatch isn’t dishing out tasks to the four couriers, she composes the sounds emanating from Earth, sometimes with a full orchestral accompaniment, depending on her mood.

She has a broad sense of what comprises music, so the sounds become a beautiful mashup of conversations, sounds from nature and everyday civilisations from all over the world. 

The Slynaps tree grows straight through Winghaven, its trunk forming part of the decor of Moya’s office at the centre. Its crown catches passing star-seeds in its feathers, forming cocoons from which hatch new baby angels.

The pilot begins with Coco hatching, and meeting her fellow couriers. The other three Wingsters help Coco out of her cocoon and introduce her to grumpy Ignatius, ( winged sheep and the planet’s ‘manager’) and The Keep, where they sleep. They explain that she’ll invent her own ‘apartment’ in there, as they have done.

Coco meets Moya who explains how the roots of the Slynaps Tree absorb every thought children send into the ether. The information then passes through the earphones and the speakers into Moya’s Central Dispatch. Coco is intrigued by the singing planet.

At the beginning of each episode, Moya summons the angels via an announcement from the red postbox.

Usually, there’s a short video of the child in the situation on the screen. The angels then locate the child by thought and are there instantaneously. The children of only one family feature in the TV series, along with one or two of their friends.

In each episode, one or two of our chubby heroes will be assigned to a specific child in its situation. They communicate among themselves by thought too, so they all grasp a situation instantly.

This can and does lead to chaos, and then Moya must rescue the rescuers with coincidences and odd occurrences and a sparkle here and there. But they try never to disappoint her.
